The work “Evidence of Connection” was my final exhibition in my undergraduate fine art career at Texas Woman’s University.
In this work, I examine my experiences of growing up in a broken home. I use an archive of family photographs and home footage (not included on my website) that was given to me by my grandmother that document myself as an infant and the first few years of my life. The photographs and footage help me to ask the questions I continue to have about my identity, my connection to my parents and their divorce, and the ways we search for evidence that we were loved in our memories.
I destroy and manipulate the prints by cutting them, dissolving them, and piecing them back together. I search for ways to describe the loss of a life in a solid household that I never got to live. I am mystified by the photographs that have frozen moments I don’t remember in time forever.
